From basement to suite
Client vision and design approach
Zoning, transparency, and indoor–outdoor connection – creating a new sense of living instead of a typical basement feel
Insight into the project
Creating openness, enhancing orientation, structuring use
In this project, a previously unused basement was transformed into a transparent suite with high spatial quality. The focus was on clear spatial zoning and on integrating natural light through newly created outdoor areas.
A transparent entrance wall and strategically placed green zones enabled a smooth connection between interior and exterior spaces. The micro-zones – living, cooking, and service – were accessed through a differentiated floor height concept.
U-shaped design elements in the form of defined ceilings, walls, and lighting were used to create spatial depth and structure. The functional layout of the suite was developed to balance privacy and openness, allowing for uninterrupted and comfortable use.
